IDmelon Authenticator is now Accessible through iOS 17.0 AutoFill Passkeys.

Passkeys are the future of passwordless authentication and are designed to deliver the experience and the peace of mind that everyone deserves. With growing support from the global tech leaders, the future has arrived! Now, with iOS 17, Apple is joining Google in embracing third-party passkey support. And with this change coming to iOS, third-party providers can fully embrace passkeys more broadly.  

IDmelon, which had first introduced integration of its passkey manager with Android through the smartphone application, is excited to announce that IDmelon delivers passkey support in iOS, too. Why should I use passkeys instead of passwords?

Passkeys are the answer to the password problem. They are a replacement for passwords. They are cryptographically generated digital credentials introduced by the Fast Identity Online (FIDO) Alliance and developed by Google, Microsoft, Apple, and other tech leaders.

Passkeys solve the password problems and offer many benefits as follows:

• Optimized User Experience: You no longer need to create, memorize, and constantly change complex passwords. The login experience is easy and familiar; a verification of your face or fingerprint, for example, which is a simple action you take many times every day to unlock your devices.    
• Backup and Recovery: Every passkey you create on a device can be synced to all other devices of yours, through an end-to-end encryption. So, if you buy a new device or lose a device, you don’t need to reregister your passkeys.
• Phishing-resistant Security: Passkeys are based on FIDO authentication, a global authentication standard based on public cryptography and proven to be resistant to threats of phishing, credential theft, man-in-the-middle, and other credential-related or remote attacks.
• No Shared Secrets: Passwords are shared secrets and don’t stay on local authentication devices: websites and applications need to know the user’s password to authenticate them and let them log in. But passkeys don't need to share any secret information with websites and applications to let logins happen. All they share is a public key, which has no value to any cybercriminal.

• FIDO Key Management and Scalability: Passkeys allow you to access your FIDO login credentials on many of your devices, even new ones, without the need to re-register every device on every account.
